Week 11 Newsletter

Well it has been an exciting last two weeks of Term 2 2011.
Week 10 saw the Year 5 & 6 rugby team tackling and sprinting their way to victory in the Eastern Zones Rugby Tournament. They were presented with their shield at assembly by the fabulous Sonny Bill Williams (played by Ema Luisa 'Ilalio), Daryian and Mr C!
On Wednesday 6th of July 2011 twenty five of our year 7 & 8 pupils were lucky enough to visit the fabulous Faculty of Science at the University of Auckland for an Incredible Science show. They were treated to a chemistry magic show, an origami fold along, using dry ice to blow up balloons and watching very talented scientists creating creatures out of glass. Many thanks to the University for providing this trip free of charge, we loved it!

Disaster struck at Sylvia Park School on Wednesday 13th July 2011 at approximately 11.30am with a 5.3 earthquake which triggered the volcanic eruption of Mangere Mountain. All classes used the knowledge they had gained over this term to survive and remain calm. Room 17 & 18 became our Civil Defence Team and ran the disaster relief effort from the computer room. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and special thanks to Mr Roberts for his brilliant announcing skills and Whaea Nikki, Mrs Hanline and Whaea Emma for organising the day!

Portfolios went home this week - a great chance to showcase the skills and knowledge that the students have gained over the last term!

All of the Staff would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and can't wait to see all the students back in Term 3 for some more fantastic learning!
